This is today's latest! It's just a coincidence that I've named this 'The Four Seasons', and my previous post talks about music I listen to while painting. Well, one of my favorite classical composers is Vivaldi. But in this case, it was trance all the way!
So for those of you who've asked what kind of music do I listen to when I paint- well, it depends on what I'm painting. For example, I mostly listen to trance music when I paint the larger abstracts, with an occasional Enigma thrown in.
When I paint landscapes or sunsets, I listen to new age music like Amethystium . Since this type of painting requires greater detail, I can't listen to trance, unless I want to turn it into a pure abstract.
I've also listened to classical music while painting portraits and certain landscapes. For the most part, though, I try to stay away from too many lyrics. The music I've mentioned so far has few lyrics. (I think Enigma has the most lyrics, but it's more background, or at least my brain thinks so! ) I find it distracting sometimes to hear lyrics when my mindset is somewhere else.
So now you have an idea of what I've listened to when creating your painting!

This is a new daily painting, fresh off the easel! I gave this one a 'marbelized' area in the lower left corner, to mix things up a bit. Hope you like this one- click on the image to go to the auction.

This is my latest daily painting, 'Gatekeeper', a large, 3 piece abstract painting.
I decided to delineate some of the edges more than usual with this piece. You'll notice some of the other abstracts done lately have had a 'smoky' atmosphere. This one has several lost and found edges, and sharp contrast in some areas. Hope you like it!

NIGHT LABYRINTH - 48 x 36 inches, acrylic abstract painting by AJ LaGasse. This is my latest daily painting, 3 panels on 3/4 inch gallery wrap canvas.
It's been another long day in the studio, but I'm loving it! I hope that you like this one too!

So, another busy day here in my studio: had several paintings going out, deliveries coming in, and worked on this painting in 4 different sessions.
These type of abstracts are not done alla prima (one session). Rather, multiple layers are needed to create the ambience that I'm looking for. Usually 3 or 4, but sometimes up to seven painting sessions! To that, add 2 layers of varnish for optical depth and protection, painted edges (two coats), and you'll appreciate the amount of time that goes into each piece!
Check out the painting by clicking on the image above.
