LaGASSE Original OIL Paintings- Realism Plum Tomatoes Daily Painting 6 x 8

This is my daily painting for today - 'Plum Tomatoes', oil on 6x8 inch canvas panel. I've painted this in realism style. At this small size, I don't want to get bogged down in photo-realism, and I think that painting in photo-realism leaves little room for artistic expression (IMHO). Now, some might consider this impressionistic, and that's fine as well, though I consider impressionist to show more brushstrokes than I have here.

These small oil paintings are offered for those collectors who may not have the wall space (or funds!) for my larger abstracts. If the (7 day) auction ends without a bid, the painting will be available on my website- http://www.lagassegallery.com/.

I truly enjoy painting in different styles and sizes to help hone my skills as a painter- it really keeps you on your toes! Oh, by the way, those tomatoes were sooo juicy! You know that I just had to eat them afterward. ;)

Daily Painting - 'Heart and Soul' - 36 x 72 inches - LaGasse Abstract Art on Gallery Wrap Canvas

'Heart and Soul' - 3 piece abstract painting on (3) 24x36 inch gallery wrap canvases. This one is appropriately named, since I put in a lot of hours working, and re-working the composition and color layering! I'm delighted with the end result, and it's one of those pieces that in the end, you just go 'whew!'

Diamonds are Forever...

Courtesy Science Ltd. and Jay Jopling/White Cube (London)

That's right, for a cool 100 Million, you could own this new work by artist Damien Hirst! It's a life-size platinum skull set with 8,601 high-quality diamonds. If sold, Mr. Hirst’s skull will be the most expensive new work of art ever made. The large diamond in the forehead is 'only' 52.40 carats!

In case you're wondering, Hirst is the artist that made his name by pickling sharks, cows, sheep, and so on. His work is all about death, and I do think that the skull certainly fits the bill.

PS - If you happen to purchase this, let me know, I'd like to take a closer look... ;)

Today's painting is a warm and glowing painting that I think has a sense of mystery and aura about it, thus its name!

I sometimes like creating focal points within a painting using a glow, instead of a strong contrast. This is one of those paintings, and I hope that you, too, will feel the warmth of 'The Inner Sanctum'!

'Sedona Fossil' - 24x30 inches - Textured Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas.

My latest daily painting is a brief departure from my latest abstract style of large-format acrylic paintings. The reason is that oil paint, especially in thick textured form, takes a VERY LOOONNNGGG time to dry!

Don't get me wrong- I LOVE doing this type of painting - I just run out of space to keep them while they dry! We're talking an average of 3-5 weeks to dry enough to handle and ship. Sometimes, they simply will not dry.

Luckily, this has only happened twice (thanks for understanding, Mike!), and I literally have to remove the paint from the canvas, or re-stretch with new canvas, and re-paint the painting. This is why this type of painting is more valuable- it's the time element at work, like a fine wine!

Anyway, this painting is called 'Sedona Fossil', for the hues that you'll find in Sedona, Arizona- those siennas, umbers and orange/yellow hues.

This is a new daily painting, a huge abstract for those blues lovers out there! (I like the blues myself!). 'Blue Escapade' is the name of this piece, and I put in some blue-green areas to add visual interest. To see more, and to bid on this work, just click on the image above!
